2nd International Hydropower Conference – Pakistan 2022 (Serena Hotel, Islamabad)

The 2nd International Hydropower Conference was held in Serena Hotel, Islamabad on 21st December 2022 which was organized by Energy Update in collaboration with Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) and International Hydropower Association (IHA). The conference was attended by large number of dignitaries from public and private sector, key stakeholders and power/energy sector experts.

While addressing the participants, Managing Director PPIB/CEO AEDB Mr. Shah Jahan Mirza shed light on the importance of hydropower generation being a renewable form of electricity and underlined PPIB’s ongoing efforts and momentous success stories delivered by PPIB towards harnessing the hydropower potential in the country. He remarked that according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all should be ensured. Mr. Mirza said the government also intended to increase the reliance on indigenous resources and wanted to induce more green energy in the system in the next 10 years. He also appreciated the role of private sector in developing the power sector of Pakistan and voiced that private sector is playing crucial role in tapping abundant hydropower potential which as per PPIB’s latest report is sufficient to generate 64,000 MW.
